Magdalena

Magdalena

Like many women in Guatemala, Magdalena learned to weave huipiles and other clothing items so that she would be able to make clothes for her husband and four children. But Magdalena saw opportunities beyond merely creating clothes for her family, and she began selling products to artisan stores in the villages surrounding Lake Atitlan. With the profits from selling her woven goods, Magdalena opened her own store, where she sells table runners, purses, bookmarks, placemats, and landscapes paintings that her son creates. The income from her store helps Magdalena support her children in school, and her oldest son has already graduated with an art degree.
