The Founders of Friendship Bridge
Theodore C. Ning, Jr., MD HL.D (hon) Ted with his wife, Connie, founded Friendship Bridge in 1989 after visiting post-war Vietnam where he had served with the US Army as a Battalion Surgeon in 1970. Ted is a graduate of Northwestern University Medical School and was a partner in a urology practice in Denver prior to his retiring in 1995 to devote himself to Friendship Bridge. He has studied with the Grameen Bank and Opportunity International and has helped create microcredit projects in Vietnam and Guatemala.Ted continues as Clinical Professor of Surgery (Urology) at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine. He continues to be very active in the Denver community and has served on numerous community boards. He has received many community awards. In 2007, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters (HL.D) by the University of Colorado Board of Regents. In 2007, Ted left Friendship Bridge Board to start Starfish One by One, a new non-profit concentrating on children’s education in Guatemala and Mexico. Constance C. Ning Connie has received many awards for her leadership including the 2002 Community Bridge Builder Award from the Denver Vincentian Center for Spirituality and Work and the West Chamber 2003 Outstanding Women of Jefferson County. Connie served for 13 years as the President of the Board with vision, energy and compassion for the plight of impoverished women and children. In 2007, Connie left the Friendship Bridge Board to start Starfish One by One, a new non-profit concentrating on children’s education in Guatemala and Mexico. |
